There is no life without water
“Water is life’s mater and matrix, mother and medium. There is no life without water.”
Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
American anthropologist and philosopher Loran Eisely wrote, “If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water.” Photographer Edgar J has carried on a romance with that “magic” most of his life. Born in the States but growing up in the Dominican Republic, his earliest memories are of an island paradise surrounded by sun, sand and emerald sea. It was his playground and his inspiration.
For Edgar professional diving was a natural career path. He spent his days engulfed in an underwater world few of us will experience. He witnessed nature at its purest and most capricious. After many years he turned to another passion—photography—and endeared himself to parents of children from pregnancy through babyhood, childhood, high school graduation and wedding by capturing not formal, stilted images of their kids but unexpected poses, multi-dimensional reflections of their personalities and spirit.
His pictures come alive and his rapport with kids of all ages allows him to truly chronicle who they are at each stage in their growth. It was only natural then that he married his two loves—photography and water—to wow his patrons with underwater and on-water photos of families and kids. There’s just something about children and water. It’s excites them and fascinates them. Edgar uses this most elemental, yet enchanting earth substance to create unexpected family photos like no other.
